Our full product line includes many other functional, ornamental and security metal products suited to our core specialty of custom manufacturing based on precision metal fabrication and finishing. Ornamental Metalwork
At New Craftsman Industries, ornamental metal work is a specialty that was born naturally from the rich history of decorative metal and architectural elements that adorn the many period masterpieces of Chicago where we NCI is based. Stylish decorative metal flourishes, details, grilles and grates can be found on everything from air duct covers to balconies, doors to windows, radiators to transoms. Architectural elements produced in iron or steel to last many lifetimes. Many of them in the clean geometric styles of the Arts & Crafts, Mission, Prairie and Art Deco architectural styles for which Chicago is famous.
Iron or steel? Many people associate decorative metal work with ornamental ironwork, as opposed to steel. There is a difference. Architectural ironwork is manufactured by heating, pounding, forging and bending of solid metal. Metal work details were once produced mainly iron, but now are typically steel. It is a very old method originating before the invention of conventional steel.
At New Craftsman Industries we don't work in iron but we do perfectly emulate ornamental ironwork design utilizing the latest digital design and manufacturing technologies and materials to create beautifully intricate and functional products that have the look of ornamental iron work without the cost or the lengthy production times. Our metalwork is primarily in steel but we also work in brass, bronze, copper, stainless steel and aluminum.
